How safe is our drinking water?


On 3 September 2016, Havelock North residents received the “all clear” that they could drink their water straight from the tap. It had been a long August for the town, with more than one-third of the town’s population of 14,000 reportedly becoming sick due to contaminated drinking-water. Test results suggest that campylobacter was the primary infectious agent, although the source of the contamination has not been confirmed.
