Transforming NZ Police Recruitment to Drive Diversity

The New Zealand Police won the Excellence in Improving Diversity and Inclusiveness within the Public Sector at this year’s Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards.

Kaye Ryan, Deputy Chief Executive People and Capability, shared how the New Zealand Police created a recruitment campaign that reflected NZ Police as a great place to work, where diversity is valued. A highlight of the campaign was ‘The World’s Most Entertaining Police Recruitment Video’ starring real NZ Police staff in a fun, fast-paced chase sequence. Posted in the NZ Police Recruitment Facebook page, the video had a huge and immediate impact.

The campaign drove an overall increase in recruit applicants, as well an increases in applications from female (35%), Maori (45%), Asian (63%) and Pacific Island (17%) applicants.

Kaye Ryan spoke about this innovative and successful recruitment campaign from planning to implementation including the challenges and where to next - including a new video currently being shot. Her presentation is attached.
