Building Trust and Confidence in Government

The Justice Sector Award for Building Trust and Confidence in Government recognises efforts to build people’s trust in New Zealand’s public sector.

According to Transparency International, New Zealand has the second most trusted public service in the world. This award recognises organisations that have thought creatively or innovatively about how to build trust and confidence in the communities they serve.

These organisations will have demonstrated the importance of integrity in gaining and maintaining trust above and beyond traditional methods.

They will have provided extra reassurance of their integrity in order deliver an initiative, project or programme that has benefited a community or group.

Criteria

The extent to which the initiative, project or programme demonstrates:

  • commitment to the spirit of serving New Zealanders and users of public services
  • leadership that has inspired people to demonstrate the highest standards of integrity, behaviour or conduct
  • an initiative or way of working that has built public trust and confidence in government services in an area where trust was hard to gain and was integral to success
  • integrity above and beyond the norm that was needed to provide sufficient reassurance to the public in order to deliver a service.
