Innovation in Government: the current and future use of data in Government is an opportunity to discuss the risks and opportunities around the use of data in Government policy and administration.
The speakers will share their experience and views on how data can be used to support stronger policy outcomes, the potential risks, and key opportunities of broadening the use of data in government policy and administration.

About the Speakers
Tim Maloney
Professor Tim Maloney is the Head of the School of Economics and Co-Director of the Centre for Social Data Analytics (CSDA) at the Auckland University of Technology, and Chief Economist at the Ministry of Social Development since November 2017.
He has held academic positions at the University of Missouri and Bowdoin College in the US, and the University of Auckland between 1991 and 2010.Tim’s fields of interest are labour economics, applied econometrics and public policy.
Paul Stone
Paul is leading the New Zealand Open Government Data Programme. He has over 20 years’ experience in IT for a variety of organisations including Knight Frank (NZ) Limited, Ministry of Defence, Charities Commission, and was CIO at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
Paul was responsible for delivering the New Zealand Charities Register as open data in 2011. He worked part-time and now full-time for the Open Government Data Programme for seven years. The cross-government Programme now sits under the Government’s Chief Data Steward and CEO of Statistics NZ.
