Growing Up in New Zealand

Growing Up in New Zealand is New Zealand's contemporary longitudinal study tracking the development of approximately 7,000 New Zealand children from before birth until they are young adults. The study is designed to provide unique information about what shapes children’s early development and how interventions might be targeted at the earliest opportunity to give every New Zealand child the best start in life.

The latest report from the Growing Up in New Zealand longitudinal study “Now We Are Four: Describing the preschool years” has just been released. The report draws on a number of data collection waves which capture key transitions for the children between the ages of two and four years.

Associate Professor Susan Morton will draw on the findings of the study to identify some key policy issues and their potential impact for the Auckland region.
