Improving Public Value through Business Transformation

The Treasury (Kaitohutohu Kaupapa Rawa) Award for Excellence in Improving Public Value through Business Transformation recognises the call for “smarter, better public services for less”.

The best of these organisations or projects will have thought creatively about different ways of delivering services, carrying out their regulatory responsibilities or other business. They will have transformed some aspect of their business by utilising system stewardship approaches and innovative methods to deliver more effective public services which improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders.

Criteria

The extent to which the project or organisation demonstrates:

  • significantly improved service levels or outcomes at a similar or reduced level of cost (including compliance costs if relevant)

or

maintained service levels or outcomes at significantly lower levels of cost (this may include reduced compliance costs)

  • that it has put into action a stewardship approach to carrying out some aspect(s) of its business, including for example: using people-centred service design, better use of data and information, or leveraging scale and expertise across agencies
  • innovative methods to more effectively deliver public services that improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders and expand the opportunities and capabilities of people to live the lives they value. This could include demonstration of best practice in internal and external communication, consultation, and risk identification and management.
