You will have regularly read in the media about cyber security threats, and indeed threats that cause significant problems, as in the recent attacks which closed down the New Zealand Stock Exchange. We have also heard how Cyber security problems are becoming more and more common over time. Effective Engagement with Maori - Auckland

It’s an important time for all of the public sector to be thinking about how we are engaging with Māori, and what meaningful and effective engagement looks like. The establishment of Te Arawhiti – The Office for Māori Crown Relations, reinforces the government’s commitment to building strong, ongoing and effective relationships with Māori across all of government.

We held this two-day workshop for the first time in Auckland on the 2nd and 3rd of November. Interest outstripped places available, so we will be back in 2021.

Caring for Communities - An All of Government Response to COVID-19

When COVID-19 hit New Zealand’s shores earlier this year, New Zealand moved swiftly to eliminate the pandemic and it’s potentially disastrous impacts on the country and its people. A part of the all of government response was a workstream called Caring for Communities. The aim of the work stream was to provide important information and effective support to all individuals, whānau and communities at greater risk of experiencing adverse health, social or economic outcomes as a result of COVID-19. In this session, our speakers will talk about how the response team worked through identifying the communities that needed help, what they understood the communities were experiencing during COVID-19 and what support was required, and how the nationwide response was mobilised.

Securing the Wellbeing of Future Generations

IPANZ and SOLGM hosted this webinar with Dr Jane Davidson (a former Minister for the Environment and Sustainability in Wales) and Jacob Ellis (from the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales). This inspiring conversation brought together the political and administrative perspectives of planning for future generations, enabling us to draw lessons for Aotearoa/New Zealand. It covers how the Wellbeing Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 was established, and progress in implementing its aspirations. These are critical issues for public sector professionals in local and central government, in our shared worlds where embedding effective, systemic, long-term thinking and action is of utmost importance. For IPANZ members, the principle of stewardship in our new Public Service Act and our wellbeing framework, makes this even more important.

Public Sector Reputation 2020 - WEBINAR

IPANZ and Deloitte hosted a webinar examining the factors that shape public perception of the reputation of Public Sector agencies, which reached record highs as the COVID-19 crisis struck earlier this year. Presenters Edward Langley, Research Director from Colmar Brunton and Rhys Jones, Chief Executive of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) discussed the results from the 2020 Public Sector Reputation Index study and how the public are responding to Public Sector messaging in the post-lockdown environment.

NZ GovTech Accelerator - Innovation in the Public Sector

The NZ GovTech Accelerator is a government innovation programme that creates valuable projects in three months; reducing costs and de-risking innovation in the public sector. This session provided an overview of the GovTech Accelerator programme and how it is helping government departments/agencies drive better outcomes for citizens, through the delivery of better services. It included a case study of recent GovTech Alum, Spring, an incredibly successful project which came from the Ministry of Social Development.
